This last week was a quiet one around our home as we settled in and prepared for winter. The weather has been unseasonably warm so far this fall, but the forecast finally predicted a bit of snow later in the week. While the temps were still above freezing, we put away the last of our outdoor furniture and garden knickknacks, made sure the snowblower was easy to pull out of the garage, and brought the last of our vacationing house plants inside for the season. We even pulled out our little log cabin incense burner and filled the home with the scent of smoky pine.
This time of year always feels a bit sombre to me in a way – instead of creating new things, it feels like a time to pack things away and prepare for hibernation. Maybe it was knowing that these warm, sunny days would soon be behind us, but I found myself spending lots of time near the windows, tending to my plants, admiring the colorful leaves outside, and soaking up the golden sunshine.
Needless to say, I don’t have any exciting updates to share with you all this week – just a few quiet, calm moments that inspired me to pick up my camera and try to capture this season’s fleeting, peaceful mood. I hope you enjoy them!
